Twist and Twist Again
There’s a family of asana that every 21st-century body loves and needs, the twists! We’ll begin by touching base on the mechanics of what’s happening in your body when you twist with integrity, then via a controlled vinyasa practice, we’ll gradually explore the core-muscles required for non-levered twist and then begin to add some leavers, gradually getting deeper into our opening and closing twists. We’ll explore adding our new found twists to increasingly challenging balancing poses and arm balances.
Bigger, Balanced Backbends (workshop 1h 45m)
There are plenty of ways to shortcut your way into a pose, or at least something that looks like the pose on quick inspection, but here we’ll be focusing on integrity over aesthetics. Backbends have countless benefits, if done mindfully, but have lots of less-than-desirable outcomes if you are ‘chasing the shape’. Here, through a controlled vinyasa practice, we’ll be especially looking at; finding evenness, enhancing technique, building strength and finding comfort, in your backbends. We’ll strengthen your over- loose bits and open your over-tight bits. We’ll explore dancers, wheel, cobra, drop backs, bow and plenty more.
Heavenly Hips and Tight bits
Activities we do every day, from picking up babies, to hunching over desks can create huge habitual tightness in our bodies. In this class, via a controlled vinyasa practice with some deeper static sections, we’ll we target those problem areas parts, finding increased flexibility in the stiff bits and strength in the weak bits. Amongst other things, attention will be given to shoulders, chest, hips, legs, and plenty more. Maybe you’ll find a huge sense of release and maybe you’ll find parts especially intense, but you’ll certainly take home some useful ideas on how you can find more balance in your body, both in class and at home.
Refining our vinyasa practice and asking why – (workshop 1h 45m)
We may have gone to hundreds of vinyasa classes, but in these 75 minute affairs, slotted precariously in to high energy weeks, we move from asana to asana without having time to truly; explore the pose, understand the pose, take it deeper or acknowledge the sensations of the body. Through this workshop you’ll get to consider key anatomical principles and how they apply to your asana practice along with exploring the alignment, anatomy and intention of common postures, potentially feeling them in entirely new places. You’ll learn to become more engaged, attentive, integrated and focused in your asanas, potentially feeling them in entirely new places.
